GE's DV1 is another camcorder designed for outdoor use. GE claims it's waterproof to five metres and can survive a 1.5-metre drop.

It’s inexpensive and easy to use, but the DV1’s video quality is distinctly average.

Its most interesting feature is the built-in USB connector that retracts inside the camera body when not in use, just like the Sony Bloggie Touch. HDMI output is also included.

GE DV1 – Waterproof digital HD video camera

 

This review of the GE DV1 digital HD video camera has turned out to be quite timely, given the recent demise of Cisco's Flip series of cameras.

Waterproof; shockproof; Full HD video; easy to use

Flimsy USB connector; fair image quality

At the price, the DV1 is a great video camera to take to the pool or the beach. Kids, especially, will just love it.

Often not being the first to market is a plus as is the case here. The ‘Flip' has long been the best pocket camcorder around; many have tried to copy or improve. Here with the best bits from several is this offering from GE.
