The Sony MDR-V6 closed-back, full-size headphones sound great and are comfortable to wear for hours at a time. Their sound is also very well-balanced and crisp -- they sound great for the money.

With its coiled, pro-style cable and lack of an inline remote/microphone, some will find the V6s less mobile-friendly than more modern headphones.

They may be close to 30 years old, but the comfortable fitting Sony MDR-V6s are arguably the best-sounding headphones for under $100.

Sony MDR-V6 Review

These Sony MDR-V6 headphones have impressed me for decades. They sound and feel great, have magnificent deep bass, have plenty of sensitivity so they never need external amplification, and fold-up for travel. For about $100, they are a steal.

Sony MDR V6

Great rich sound, crisp bass response without distortion or washiness. Super comfortable, padded headband and big enough to cover your whole ear to keep outside sound out

Somewhat larger than most headphones, they're moderately bulky for portable audio. Ear padding is comfortable, but can tear or fray with extended use. External wires sometimes get twisted and tangled in the foldable design

These headphones provide clarity and durability while remaining comfortable and versatile. They're really good for listening to music, mixing and tracking.

I would recommend buying Beyerdynamic Earpad Cushions (compatible with the V6).

Aviv ben menachem I did notice that after prolonged use, the earpad cushions detiorated.

I've been told that they are more comfortable than the stock cushions. These headphones are a Aviv ben menachem

These are just the best $100 headphones around

These headphones are such a good buy. There really isn't anything wrong with them. And the sound quality is really good, they simply beat all other headphones that are in the $200 range, even though these cost only $100. Just buy these. And whatever...

-Mind blowing sound quality -balanced -comfy -good carrying case -durable -folds -compact -eargasmic sound quality -did I mention that It has good sound quality

-cord is too long

Still the best sounding headphones

I bought my MDR-V6 over 12+ years ago and they continue to shine. I own a pair of Bose OE2 and they are still a cut below. These are studio quality with a no-nonsense built. They last forever and if the pads start to wear just look on Ebay.

Durable, timeless, can find replacement pads cheap on Ebay and Amazon

They don't break...last forever...bad for BOSE, BEATS, etc..

Why hasn't an editor reviewed these classics?

The best $80 I've ever spent on audio equipment. These headphones are the absolute best in the price class and rival headphones that cost hundreds more.

Fabulous, rich and invigorating sound.

Some may not like the size. The earpads do deteriorate after a few years of use.
