Muramasa: The Demon Blade

One of the most beautiful games ever created. Developer Vanillaware has become known for their vibrant art style and affection for old-school design. Muramasa: The Demon Blade is the latest...

Lush and gorgoues visuals ; Top-tier animation ; Simplistic, yet deep combat ; Outrageous boss characters

Can be a bit linear ; Sword selection becomes a palette swap

Muramasa: The Demon Blade [Wii]

I've been getting a lot of use out of my Wii lately; it seems that a collection of noticeable titles are really hitting the console in stride. Although as most Wii owners will know, the best games on the console outside of the big N's own publishing...

Possibly one of the best looking games this generation ; Atmosphere is sublime ; Combat is fast, highly difficult and extremely fluid and fun ; Storyline is very interesting and presented well

Combat can get a bit tierd by the end ; Boss battles sometimes last too long ; Most areas feel somewhat deserted ; Storyline can be confusing and not told as well as it should be

Muramasa is the pinnacle of 2D gaming this generation. Despite a few flaws with story telling, and a somewhat repetitive gameplay narrative the title is one of the most well rounded packages on the Wii.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade - Wii review at Thunderbolt Games

It's hard to say which of Muramasa's protagonists has it worse. Princess Momohime is possessed by a sociopathic demon spirit. She might look innocent, but there's a murderous fiend controlling her every move. All Momohime can do is watch helplessly as...

Muramasa: The Demon Blade Review

The exceptional graphics in 'Muramasa: The Demon Blade' prove 2D games are far from redundant

The Wii has a growing list of ‘shovel ware’ titles, but every once in a while one stands out. Muramasa – The Demon Blade is such a game. . It captures some classic arcade style gameplay (and ‘light’ role playing ) from obvious inspirations such as...

Muramasa: The Demon Blade Wii Review

Can style and substance coexist together in a balanced relationship? Or does one side slip a little whilst the other takes all the glory? It can be pretty difficult to gain a balance between the two but when you do, fantastic things happen. The good...

Beautiful to look at ; Music is done nicely ; Fights are fun and fluid with an interesting twist

Repetitive gameplay ; Both storys are completable in 10 hours ; Recycled Backdrops make moving through the worlds tedious ; Confusing story

Muramasa: The Demon Blade (2009)

What manner of magic is this – a Wii game that doesn’t involve flipping burgers, hurling hoops or shaking a monkey’s maracas? But while it’s true that Nintendo’s box of delights finally has a game for hardcore players to get their teeth into,...

Muramasa: The Demon Blade

one of the best third party titles on the Wii.

My only real issue from the game came from the controls, which are pretty well done, but I had a hard time getting used to the somewhat flighty jumps of both characters. They seem to be particularly light, and while most fights have you confined to a...

Muramasa: The Demon Blade

Traversing Japan, one sexy fox lady at a time.

I loved Muramasa. I get that its mostly surface and can be dominated by agressively mashy players, but what's wrong with that? Levels are gorgeous, but aren't very inventive. Rooms are big squares, and you move either right or left while looking for...

Muramasa: The Demon Blade

Development studio Vanillaware doesn't make many games, but the ones they do are always great. Odin Sphere and GrimGrimoire were the highlights of the PS2's twilight years, ensuring that I dragged that console out for a few more sessions. The studio...

Beautiful graphics + Great controls + Lots of replay value

Some of the visual effects are distracting

Muramasa is the kind of title that needs to get in front of most players. It show exactly how much can be wrangled out of old design styles, and offers a great story. This has the quality of a good manga epic, and there is enough value to bring you...

Muramasa: The Demon Blade (Wii) review

Sheer Art Attack...

In an age where choice of avatar often means nothing more than trivial personalisation, it’s great to see a game like Muramasa come along and use that choice to offer twice as much game, with enough unique content to justify both play-throughs. It’s a...
