Nikon D4S

A professional camera you can only dream of owning... but it's nice to dream sometimes

New Expeed 4 image processor ; Maximum ISO 409,600 (extended) ; Extremely capable AF with 3D tracking ; 11fps shooting ; Great low-light performance

Very heavy ; Could be criticised for lacking innovation ; Very expensive

Consequently, ISO sensitivity now runs from ISO 100-25,600 instead of ISO 100-12,800. The extended sensitivity settings have also been improved with a new Hi4 extended mode that represents a sensitivity of an incredible ISO 409,600.

Nikon D4S

The biggest, baddest Nikon camera you can buy, the D4S has an incredible autofocus system and burst shooting capabilities, earning it Editors' Choice honors for pro D-SLRs.

Full-frame image sensor. Top-notch high ISO performance. Fast 51-point autofocus system. 10.4fps burst shooting. Intervalometer and time lapse functions. Dual card slots. Integrated vertical shooting grip. Voice memo function. Clean HDMI output....

Expensive. 16-megapixel resolution may not be enough for all shooters. Time lapse limited to 8 hours. GPS and Wi-Fi modules are pricey add-ons. Lacks built-in flash.

It's designed with autofocus performance in mind, however, and doesn't support changeable focus screens. Don't expect the same manual focus experience that you'll get with an old 35mm F3—if you're shooting with wide-aperture manual focus primes like...
